The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has advised its members to submit data on the list of students to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to forestall any delay in the release of the government subsidy and feeding grant for this academic year. The heads were expected to submit the data last October, but according to the GES, more than half of the 496 public second cycle schools nationwide are yet to send their returns and data. "Information from GES indicates that most heads have still not submitted their students’ signed list and if the defaulting heads fail to comply, CHASS will be compelled to advise the GES to process the available documents that a few schools have submitted to ensure the early release of funds to pay the subsidy," said Joseph Addo-Larbi, General Secretary of CHASS. Mr. Addo-Larbi, who is headmaster of Suhum Secondary-Technical School, said the delay might have been caused by the current first-year admission process where candidates are placed in batches. Government spends about ¢38 billion as subsidy termly on students in public second-cycle schools nationwide. Areas covered by the subsidy include fees on regular stationery, first aid, building, maintenance, sports and culture.
