Police in Cape Coast have arrested a mathematics tutor of Adisadel College who is alleged to have sodomised one of his students.
The suspect, Richard Arthur Payne is currently in custody as police take statements from other students who also claim to have fallen victim to his sexual assaults.
Joy New correspondent Richard Kojo Nyarko reports that the Headmaster of the College H.K.K. Graham confirmed the story to the Police which prompted a swift investigation into the matter.
The Police then arrested the suspect when he tried to get into his vehicle later that day.
The regional director of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DVVSU), George Appiah Sakyi told Joy News he advised the headmaster of the school to report the offence which is a criminal case despite reports that the Ghana Education Service was looking into the matter.
He said they will invite the victims and parents to obtain evidence to support the allegations for further investigations.
About a week ago a female lecturer of the Takoradi Polytechnic was suspended by the authorities for making sexual advances towards the female students.
The lecturer, Sheeba Quartey was alleged to have threatened to fail the students in on-going examinations, if they refused to acquiesce to her lascivious demands.
