The immediate past Headmistress of the Ghana National Senior High School in Koforidua, Ms Rosemond Bampo is now the new headmistress of Aburi Girls Senior High School. Ms Bampo succeeds Mrs. Sylvia Asempa, who retired last year after nine years in office. Her colourful induction ceremony at the school’s premises at Aburi was attended by a number of dignitaries including Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, senior reverend ministers of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) including the Chairperson of the Akuapem Presbytery, Rev. J.O.Y. Mantey, parents and past students of the school. Addressing the gathering shortly after her induction, Ms Bampo said she would do her best to build on the positive rating of the school as one of the best in the country and appealed to all stakeholders, especially the Ghana -Education Service (GES), PCG, the Board of Governors, the Old Girls Association, Parent-Teacher Association, staff, students and friends of the school for support. She expressed her gratitude to the Moderator of the PCG, Professor Emmanuel Martey, and Rev. J.O.Y. Mantey, the acting Director-General of the GES and all those who had supported her. Ms Bampo paid glowing tribute to all the five past headmistresses of the school since its establishment in 1946, namely Miss Elsie McKillican, Miss Irene M. Anderson, Dr (Mrs.) Joyce L. Asibey, Mrs. Grace Ansa-Otu and Mrs. Sylvia Asempa for their tremendous efforts in making the school one of the best in the country. Speaking on the theme; “Aburi Girls March Forward”, Rev. Mantey said Ms Bampo had a herculean task of maintaining the high academic standard set by the school over the years which had placed it not only among the best in Ghana, but the whole of the West African sub region and was hopeful that she would live up to expectation. Earlier in a sermon during which he dwelt on discipline, Rev. Mantey said since discipline was the hallmark of academic successes as well as in other endeavours, Ms Bampo whom he described as an academic groomed in the proverbial Presbyterian discipline, would be able to guide the students to become good professionals in the future.
