Parents and guardians of students of the Adisadel College (ADISCO) have vented their frustration and anger on the school authorities for failing to protect their children and wards from becoming victims of the alleged homosexual practices of a teacher of the school.
The parents expressed their anger and frustration during a meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school in Cape Coast last Saturday.
Not even the exhortation and pieces of advice given by the Headmaster, Mr. H.K.K. Graham, could assuage the pain and cool down tempers among the parents and guardians.
The meeting was held for the headmaster to brief the parents and guardians on recent developments in the school and discuss the way forward.
The parents and guardian ignored the calls by Mr. Graham to exercise patience as they filed out of the meeting in anger and frustration.
A Mathematics teacher of ADISCO, Richard Arthur Payne, was arrested by the Police last week for allegedly sodomising six students of the school.
Only one of the students is said to have been able to come out to reveal his ordeal to the school authorities.
The victim (name withheld) was said to have fallen sick, and when he was interrogated by the doctors at the hospital where he had been sent, he unraveled the Mathematics teacher’s unholy activities.
Mr. Graham had told the meeting that since the case was before the court, it would be sub-Judie to say to comment on it, explaining that he would not want to be cited for contempt.
Addressing the PTA meeting at the Canterbury Hall of the school, Mr. Graham said, “even if I have to kneel down and beg you, I will do so for you to exercise patience,” adding that “the school has a system it works with which we should understand”.
He said even “ghost” have attended the PTA meeting because of the problem, in apparent reference to the Mathematics teacher’s alleged conduct.
He said the admission of students was done through the computerised school selection system, while the employment of staff and teachers were done through the Ghana Education Service (GES).
According to Mr. Graham, he has delegated his assistant in charge of academics to be responsible for the recruitment of the teacher at the centre of controversy.
Justifying his actions, Mr. Graham said, “the Police Inspector does not go to an accident scene to take measurements, it is his subordinates who does that.”
He said so many things had happened elsewhere and that the school authority would not saddle parents and guardians with what he describe as unnecessary things.
The Chairman of the PTA, Mr. Augustus Sam, said since the issue of sodomy involving Mr. Arthur-Payne was now before the court; any comment would be contemptuous and, therefore, restrained members from commenting on it.
