Students of the Breman Asikuma SHS have been urged to pursue to the highest level science and technology related subjects in order to be competitive in the global market.
At a ceremony to dedicate a science library for the school, the head of the Seatec Telecom Services Ltd who is also an Alumnus of the US State Department, Mrs. Nana Beecham demystified the notion that science is a difficult subject meant only for the male students.
She therefore challenged the girls to work hard, persist and remain focused in their bid to acquire excellence in the sciences.
The Seatec Telecom Services Ltd in collaboration with the Black Women’s Leadership Council (BWLC), a Xerox Corporation Caucus group
filled the newly dedicated science library with easy-to-study science and technology books, costing over a thousand dollars for use by the students.
The two groups spearheaded the “Girls in Science” club in the school to encourage and facilitate science education, especially among the females, with the Xerox Corporation Caucus group providing five of the girls, known as the "Xerox 5" online mentoring.
Speaking to Myjoyonline.com on the sidelines of the dedication ceremony, the Alumnus of the US State department said she was inspired to impart her community with the wealth of knowledge she acquired in a US Exchange Programme-the Fortune Women’s Mentoring Programme- she attended a few months ago.
She said her company is working feverishly to provide internet facilities for the school in order to improve upon research in the school
The District Director of Education in Breman Asikuma, Isaac Amoonu advised the students to invest more time in education.
He said it is not the name and popularity of a school that will necessarily bring the best out of a student, rather it is the student’s own effort and determination that will see him or her make it in life.
“Time wasted cannot be regained”, he said.
