Sixteen-year-old Arakua Welbeck of the Ghana International School (GIS) has earned a whooping $59,600 educational scholarship package to the Harvard University in the United States.
She was adjudged the scholar of the year award in the (sciences) at the 56th Annual Prize-Giving and Sixth form graduation ceremony held in Accra.
Sixty-five students in all graduated and will be pursuing courses in various renowned universities across the world.
Principal of the school Diana Nyatepecoo charged the students to strive for success at all times.
Referring to the experiences of Mark Zuckerberg - the founder of facebook - the principal admonished the graduating students to assess their strengths and weaknesses, set clear attainable goals and act on them in order to a see their dreams become a reality.
Zuckerberg, a socially awkward student at Harvard, capitalized on his astounding knowledge in computer programming and has now created what is now a famous and internationally acclaimed social network platform.
“With an idea of what your capabilities are, set clear goals that are innovative, ambitious and yet realistic. Take note that Zuckerberg’s million dollar idea started modestly, initially only targeting college-aged students but fuelled by his ambition, it gradually became a world-wide phenomenon,” Nyatepecoo indicated.
She challenged the students to be worthy ambassadors as they get ready to face the world.
Mrs Diana Nyatepecoo said the school as part of its ambition to remain the best, will install new interactive boards in every class room.
The educational management system, she said, will enable students interact with teachers and help parents to monitor the attendance and performance of their wards in school.
She also stated the school will complete its swimming pool project as well as a multi-purpose gym for use by the students.
