Mr. Kwame Ampofo Twumasi, Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Sports in charge of technical education, on Wednesday presented five pickups at a cost of GH¢ 22,000 each to some selected second cycle institutions.
The five vehicles purchased with assistance from the GETFUND are to ease the burden of transportation as well as help in the day-to-day administration of the schools.
Three of the schools are in Accra while the remaining two are for schools in the Central Region.
The schools, which benefited from the first tranche, were Accra Girls Secondary, West Africa Secondary and St. Mary's Secondary schools.
Mr Ampofo Twumasi said government had started negotiations with the public procurement board for the release of 200 buses to be presented to schools nationwide.
He said the presentation of vehicles to second cycle schools was an initiative the Ministry had embarked on to help solve the problem of mobility, especially in deprived schools.
Mr Twumasi said the Ministry acknowledged the important role quality and effective education was playing in the development of the nation and government would continue to do its best to help the sector.
He said the Ministry would soon present pickups to District Directors of Education to enable them to have a constant link with the Ministry.
The heads of the various schools who received the vehicles assured the Minister of good maintenance culture.
