The credentials of Adom FM as the best in entertainment management in Ghana has been enhanced with the business unit’s flagship gospel concert, Adom Praiz, winning the Africa Gospel Music Awards (AGMA) for “Best Contribution to African Gospel Music” at the Lighthouse Hall in London. The AGMA, which took place on July 9, 2011, coincided with the maiden edition of Adom FM’s Ghana Gospel Industry Awards (GGIA) held at the National Theatre in Accra. Organisers of the AGMA said “the event is aimed at celebrating and awarding excellence in the gospel music industry for the people of Africa and Africans in the Diaspora,” adding that, “it is also to celebrate the work of the sector; to showcase the talent, innovation and success of our gospel artistes.” Chief Operating Officer of Adom Division, Mr. Klaus Vonbackustein, is elated with the international award. “We are extremely delighted with this AGMA award, particularly, in view of the effort we put in organizing the 2010 edition of Adom Praiz and the initial doubts raised by critics who questioned our capacity to match the standard we set for ourselves”, he told the media on receiving the trophy. Adom FM packaged the five-hour revolutionary Adom Praiz 2010 gospel show in November last year that was headlined by American gospel music legend, Cece Winans, as part of the business unit’s 10th anniversary celebration. It was the second edition of what has now become an annual gospel music fiesta which had a humble beginning in 2009. The show was innovative and full of excitement; it paraded a galaxy of big names in Ghanaian gospel music like Cecilia Marfo, No Tribe, Florence Obinim and Princess Ifeoma, Ernest Opoku, Christiana Love and left hardly any cold limbs in the filled-to-capacity auditorium of the Dome at the Accra International Conference Centre. It was beyond measure to see the gospel concert bring many into the shelter of the Almighty, the many who had nothing on their minds but seeking the face of their maker and also to thank him for his countless blessings. The expectations had been rather high, given that an earlier date for the event fell through, and a huge doubt had hung over Adom FM's ability to execute the project; a challenge made more daunting by the new date, November 17 which fell on a Wednesday. In the end, the concert received rave reviews from industry experts and followers who described it as the new benchmark for packaging international entertainment programes. The AGMA event in London honoured 20 personalities and groups covering the whole range of musical activities which comprises singing, promotion, media and projects. Ghana’s No Tribe won the “Gospel Album of the Year” at the AGMA event. Incidentally, the group, led by Nacy, won the overall Artiste of the Year at the maiden Ghana Gospel Industry Awards organized by Adom FM the same night in Accra. Some of the continent and Diaspora's finest artistes including UK-based Sonnie Badu, Nigeria-based gospel rock star, EBEN and South Africa-based, Uche performed at the event.
