A 33-year-old woman, alleged to have assaulted and poured hot soup on a nursing mother has been convicted by an Accra Circuit Court.
The court, however, deferred sentence to August 30, and granted the accused, Grace Andoh, a GH¢ 10,000 bail with two sureties.
Madam Andoh, also known as Aba, a seamstress and co-tenant to the victim, was convicted on her own plea of guilty to one count of causing unlawful harm.
Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kofi Blagodzi told the court that the nursing mother, Ernestina Owusu and Aba live in the same house at Ofankor, a suburb of Accra.
He said Aba had fixed a drying line which stretched to Ernestina’s door where she hangs her clothes.
According to the prosecution, anytime Aba hanged her clothes, it covered the entrance of Ernestina’s door.
On the morning of August 7, Aba hanged her clothes on the rope which blocked the entrance to Ernestina’s room and when she complained, it resulted in an argument during which Aba threatened to deal with Ernestina.
At about 4:30.p.m the same day, the prosecution said Aba started casting insinuations at Ernestina, resulting in the two verbally abusing each other which prompted Aba to pour hot soup on Ernestina.
Aba, after the act, rushed to the Achimota Mile 7 Police Station to lodge a complaint against Ernestina.
Ernestina also rushed there later, with her husband and met Aba at the Charge Office. He said the police after listening to both sides arrested Aba and processed her for court.
