Ghana’s indefatigable DJ, Kwadwo Ampofo, known behind the turntables as DJ Black, has been selected as a judge for the 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards.
Mr Black, together with other renowned DJs selected from the African continent who not only play the music, but also have insight into who the public loves, will be involved in this year’s nominees’ selection process.
Known as one of the best DJs in Africa, DJ Black holds an impressive resume of hosting shows for some famous international acts such as Akon, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Fabolous and Shaggy.
He was also a judge for the Metro FM Awards in South Africa and recently a guest DJ for Big Brother Amplified.
Mr Tuntum, as he is sometimes affectionately called, is a member of international DJ’s movement and the founder of Blaqbone Media.
Other DJs named to be part of the panel for the nominees’ selection process include, G Money from Kenya, Toolz and DJ Caise, both from Nigeria, Reuben from Tanzania and Uganda’s Bryan McKenzie.
Channel O Africa manager, Lee Kasumba said in an interview that, “Whether they interview them or play their music in clubs, DJ’s are the perfect blend of musical knowledge and popular culture.”
She added that, “Our aim is to ensure that the channel is fully representative of the African continent, so it was very exciting for us to have these DJ’s involved in the selection process for this year’s nominees.”
