The Editor of the Al-Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature says the Member of Parliament for Adetan Constituency in the Greater Accra region, Kwadwo Adu Asare is a defeatist.
Kojo Adu Asare had asked the ruling government to abrogate the controversial STX Housing deal to avoid further embarrassment ahead of the 2012 General Elections. He said six months after the president cut the sod for the commencement of the project at the Police Training School at Tesano in Accra, nothing has been done to bring it into fruition.
His comments followed the boardroom wrangling between Ghanaian managers of the project and their Korean partners over the ownership of the project, casting a dark cloud over the $1.5 billion project to build 30,000 housing units.
But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Tuesday, Alhaji Bature said the NDC Member of Parliament had rushed to arrive at the conclusion that the current misunderstanding between the project managers was embarrassing to government.
According to Bature, the current situation will not affect the project in terms of funding since “funding for the STX deal had already been secured”.
He claimed the MP did not have enough information on the project, making him publicly declare the turn of events as shameful. Bature believes the misunderstanding between the Ghanaian and Korean partners can be resolved for the smooth take-off of the project.
But in a sharp rebuttal, Mr. Kwadwo Adu Asare maintained his position, saying that as long as the issue has reached the courts, “the project will not see the light of day”.
He disagreed with Alhaji Bature’s claims that he was a defeatist, explaining that he had been vocal on issues on the floor of the house on countless occasions.
