The Catholic Bishops Conference, presented 5,000 Ghana cedis to the Volta Regional Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) towards the rehabilitation of flood victims in the Region, on Friday in Ho.
The Most Reverend Francis Lodonu, Bishop of the Ho Diocese of the Catholic Church, presented the amount to Mr Henry Ametefe, the Regional NADMO Co-ordinator.
Bishop Lodonu said government alone could not support flood victims, and appealed to individuals and organisations to complement government efforts at seeking the welfare of people hit by flood.
He called on communities to adopt sound environmental practices to lessen the effects of natural disasters.
Mr Ametefe expressed NADMO’s appreciation for the gesture of the church and said NADMO would collaborate with the Catholic Church and other organisations in disaster prevention and management.
He announced that a special disaster committee has been set up to educate the people on disaster management.
