Minister for Tourism, Akua Sena Dansua has endorsed Adom FM’s annual gospel music festival dubbed “Adom Praiz”, as one of the surest means of promoting domestic tourism in Ghana.
Miss Sena Dansua described the event which brought people far and near to worship the Lord, as one that promotes ‘Christian tourism’ where Christians gather to imbibe the word of God and at the same time create avenues for investment.
The minister was sharing her excitement at the successful organization of the Adom Praiz 2011, which is the third in succession since 2009, which attracted gospel music enthusiasts from all walks of life.
The Minister stated that apart from promoting tourism, the event also impacts “a sense of spirituality and positivity into the lives of Ghanaians”.
She expressed excitement at the high patronage of the youth in a religious gospel music programme like Adom Praiz.
Akua Sena Dansua said the nation is assured and can be proud of a future generation that are God fearing and possesses the sense of belonging if such programmes are organized periodically, judging from the high patronage it enjoyed among the youth.
She stated that the youth have been implicated in most violent activities and social vices in the country which needs to be reversed.
Ms Sena Dansua said the show will help reorient the youth to the positive things of life which will in turn, help in the development of the nation and themselves, adding that “a lot of the youth are going wayward”.
“We need to let them know that there is life in growing up decently and being positive about life and everything around them and this is one such programme”, she said.
She advocated for a more comprehensive approach towards the event, explaining that it will be more effective if the programme is organized nationwide throughout the regions.
She stated that it should not necessarily take the invitation of foreign artistes to grow the event.
“We can organize similar programmes around the country with the local gospel artistes quarterly and invite the foreign artistes at the grand event,” she added.
The Minister further stated that her outfit is poised to assist the organizers of the event, Adom 106.3 FM, in its quest to promote the gospel through music wherever it will be held.
"We are more than ready to support Adom FM to organize Adom Praiz nationwide knowing that it is helping to reduce the rate of criminal activities by impacting the sense of Christianity into the youth and the Ghanaian community at large."
She stated that her Ministry will be holding an international Choral Music concert where choral groups will be invited from Africa and the Diasporas and expressed hope that Adom Praiz will be inclusive as they all seek to promote gospel music.
She stated that Adom Praiz has rejuvenated the Christian community in Ghana and is a step in the right direction.
Commenting on the performance of Dr. Ron Kenoly, the ace American gospel musician invited to perform alongside local artistes, Ms Dansua said she was impressed about the interactive nature he adopted as part of his performance, describing him as a matured artiste.
She has urged corporate organizations to support Adom Praiz in cash or kind saying that “it is a worthy cause that should be assisted by all and sundry."
The Minister lamented what she said is the “appalling lack of sponsorship” that gospel programmes and others that seek to promote good morals in Ghana suffer.
She stated that if companies and corporate institutions are to sponsor programmes like Adom Praiz; it will help change the Ghanaian community positively which will benefit Ghana and Africa at large.
