Winners of the Junior Achievement Award (J.A) across Africa have converged in Accra to compete for the prestigious 2011 African Region JA Company of the Year Competition (COY).
Junior Achievement is the largest global nonprofit organization dedicated to empower and inspire young people to succeed in a global economy.
It is also to foster business skills, ingenuity and innovation that gives teens the skills to start and run their own businesses under the mentorship of a local business volunteer.
Speaking at the official opening of the second JA Africa Company of the year Competition, Education Minister Betty Mould Iddrisu underscored the need for the youth to be equipped with employable skills.
She revealed that plans are far advanced to strengthen the Technical and Vocational skills in the educational curriculum to train more entrepreneurs to accelerate Ghana’s development.
Betty Mould Iddrisu appealed to corporate bodies to support government’s effort to end graduate unemployment which has become an albatross around the neck of society.
The Education Minister urged the students to take advantage of the opportunity offered them to be able to rub shoulders with their colleagues in developed countries.
Betty Mould Iddrisu commended JA for enhancing youth capabilities through the competition, which was based on three pillars of work readiness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship.
She later opened the exhibition and inspected the innovative products and services by the JA Student Companies that brought them to the finals.
Mrs. Mould Iddrisu encouraged them to give out their best and consider the sky as their limited even if they don’t win the competition.
