Authorities in some Senior High Schools in Kumasi say over-placement of students beyond the capacity of their schools has compounded the admission process. Joy News reports of struggles by schools in the Ashanti Region to accommodate new students largely because of the paucity of infrastructure in the school. Speaking to Joy News on the situation, the headmistress of the Saint Louis Girls SHS, Madam Theresa Addai Kommey said private individuals and parents have joined hands to complement government’s efforts in increasing infrastructure facilities in the school. She said the school authorities, at a point, had to arrange for canopies to accommodate some of the students during learning, adding, that students have to take their lunch in turns to save the situation. Students of the school, Madam Kommey said, have been very cooperative with the situation and she thanked God for that. Luv FM’s Kwabena Ampratwum who visited two female schools to find out how the school authorities and students were coping with the challenges also said that population of the students were simply more than the schools’ infrastructure. He said this has really made teaching and learning very difficult and tiring since classes have been divided into sections to accommodate series of practical work in the schools’ laboratories.
