Accra is expected to witness its first ever international film festival, Festival Of Films Africa (FOFA), come March 1, 2012.
The festival, which starts March 1-4, 2012, is a landmark event aimed at providing opportunity for the Ghana Film Industry to reach its full potential as an emerging force in the world media landscape.
This initiative is coming at a time when film industries across the world have significantly supported the economies of their countries specifically by aiding in the creation of jobs and the nurturing of talents.
FOFA, which will be a representation of the best of the best in African film, according to organizers, will focus on ‘Class A’ movies produced in Africa and by Africans from around the world.
The Silverbird Cinemas in Accra will witness the showing of 20 selected movies for public viewing throughout the festival period.
Apart from the Silverbird Cinema, there will be free public screening of award winning films at various venues including, The Accra Polo Grounds; Nima, 441 park; Circle, Obra spot; Accra, Rawlings park; Tema, Community centre; and the Madina, main lorry park.
Aside the screening, there will be seminars and workshops, sponsored by the Goethe Institute. The seminars and workshops which is for the film makers and all those involved in movie making will be facilitated by international and local experts.
FOFA will also serve as a unique platform where stakeholders will be brought together. They will be presented with opportunities for collaboration and funding for local productions.
The crowning of the festival will be a dinner gala where film makers will be awarded for distinguishing themselves in the movie industry. It will award and recognise African film makers and all those who make the movies possible.
