Contrary to the generally poor 2011 BECE results in the Brong-Ahafo Region, the Nkoranza North District recorded a remarkable 85 per cent pass out of 468 candidates presented. The is a drastic improvement over last year's percentage pass of 52 per cent which stands as one of the best among the 22 municipal and district assemblies in the region. The DCE for Nkoranza North, Kwadwo Adjei Dwomor, disclosed this in an interview with the Times at Busmya, the district capital. He attributed the outstanding performance of the district in this year's BECE to what he described as “strategic government educational interventions” in the last two years. According to him, free uniforms and exercise books distribution to pupils and the capitation grant played instrumental roles in the success story. Mr. Adjei Dwomor further mentioned the school feeding programme as another key factor that had boosted enrolment besides reducing truancy and absenteeism. On the state of educational infrastructure in the district which was created three years ago, the DCE said the assembly in partnership with the GET Fund had made headway by constructing classroom blocks for some schools to ease overcrowding. Mr. Adjei Dwomor said construction of two six-unit classroom blocks would soon be completed at Tanfi-ano and Boama. He added that the assembly through its Common Fund had also completed three-unit classroom block at Dramankese, Akonkonti, Siika and Baafi JHS. The DCE said that his administration was also not leaving anything to chance with regards to the crusade, against schools under trees by the government. To buttress his claim, he mentioned the completion of two six-unit classroom block for Fiema Saviour primary and Kranka Islamic primary schools which hitherto held some classes under trees. The two projects are estimated atGH¢300 with another six-unit classroom block also under construction of Dromankuma, while teachers' quarters at Bomene were ready for use. Mr. Adjei Dwonor further indicated that Busunya Senior High School was being supported with massive infrastructural development, a two-storey building valued at GH¢500,000 which is expected to be completed in a few months. He also hinted that government had also absorbed Yefriman Senior High School at Yefri as the second public SHS in the district, adding that plans were afoot to give the school a face lift.
