The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) in its quest to promote and enhance local and international marketing of Ghanaian music is collaborating with various institutions to build a robust system to digitize Ghanaian music.
So far, a digital meta-data library process is in an advance stage with over 5,000 songs already digitized.
In order to take the project to the next phase, ECOBANK in collaboration with the World Bank Ghana office and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are supporting the capacity building of MUSIGA in designing a new internet portal which will serve as a platform for reference and marketing of MUSIGA and digitized Ghanaian music.
The portal which will be launched this month is being built with support from NORCODE (Norwegian Copyright Organization).
This project when completed, according to MUSIGA, will allow the Ghana Music industry to participate in the global music market which was estimated at US$2.2 trillion as at the end of 2010.
MUSIGA has therefore invited all music right owners to submit their songs at any MUSIGA office nationwide for digitization.
