A group of primary and Junior High school teachers in the Uppers East Region Wednesday boycotted teaching to protest what they say are disparities in their pay structure. The teachers say most of them were engaged two years ago and are still on trainee allowances. They claim the regional education directorate has failed to address their concerns. Sunday Kampoli, spokesperson for the group of aggrieved teachers, told Joy News that “for four months now, some of us don’t have our salary, we those on allowance, no allowance and we are supposed to go to the classroom and teach since September 2010.” “We are now tired,” he lamented, adding that they have reported the matter to the Regional Director of Education on three occasions who informed them that the matter was not new to him, blaming the head office in Accra for the cause.
