The authorities of the Mpraeso Senior High School have sanctioned 43 final year students, all boys, for breaking school rules and regulations. The sanctions were approved by the School’s Board of Directors headed by Justice Agyeman Bempah, a retired High Court Judge. The sanctions include two weeks internal suspension with hard labour for two of the boys. They would undertake manual work on the school compound. Twenty-five of the students faced indefinite suspension. Their parents would accompany them to the school to write their final examination and then take them back home. Sixteen boys have also been sacked from the boarding house. They will stay at home and attend classes and write their final examination. Briefing the GNA in an interview, the Assistant Headmaster in charge of Administration, Mr Benedict Kuffour Osei-Mireku, said the students’ offences included failure to write first term examination, refusal to attend regular classes and also failure to write the school’s mock examination. The others are failure to sign bond of good behaviour, refusal to appear before the school’s disciplinary committee, breaking of school bounds and destruction of newly constructed school wall. He said since the commencement of the academic year, the school authorities decided to place all the 396 final year students in separate dormitories out of the 1,893 student population to enhance their studies, but the 43 failed to stay in the school to study. They rather chose to leave the school and went to town without authority to gamble, smoke and drink. Mr Osei-Mireku said the sanction of the recalcitrant students would ensure peace in the school for the other students to concentrate on their studies. He said all the 43 students sanctioned would be made to sign a bond to be of good behaviour.
