The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Ghana has presented to the public a first of a kind cardless ATM withdrawal service that allows a third party to withdraw cash on its ATM without a card.
The breakthrough innovation in the banking sector was part of three ATM Value Added Services which the bank outdoored to the public, Tuesday at its Head Office in Accra.
The Managing Director/CEO, United Bank for Africa, Ghana, Oliver Alawuba revealed that the addition of the Value Added ATM services is a continuation of the bank’s trail blazing initiatives in the Ghanaian banking industry.
Apart from the cardless ATM withdrawal, the MD revealed that the value added service allows customers of the Bank to pay their bills (utility), DSTV subscription fees and also purchase mobile recharge credit on their phone or for third parties.
The bank’s MD added that these newly added services which are powered on the e-Transact platform is aimed at creating branchless banking in Ghana which they perceive as the future of banking.
According to the Head of Product Sales of UBA, Mr. Abu Yahaya who demonstrated how the service works, customer can send funds through their mobile phone using the UBA U-mobile platform, or at the ATM using the ATM card, as well as through the nearest UBA branch where the sender would have to fill a eRemit form.
After the sender completes the sending process the receiver of the funds will be notified of the transaction and will have to visit the nearest ATM to follow a laid out procedure where he would be asked to cue in an access code generated by the sender as well as the amount of money being received.
As a pacesetter in the industry, UBA has commenced operation of a branchless banking model at the Accra Mall christened the Accra Mall E- Village which is a purely cashless service outlet that provides numerous services such as bill payments and liquidation of funds transfer on cards.
