Rihanna and Drake are used to collaborating on music together, but they'll be in competition at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.
The two music stars lead the pack of nominees this year, with both of them having five shots each at winning a statue.
They'll compete against one another for the Video of the Year honor, as Drake's clip for "Take Care" featuring Rihanna is going up against the songbird's music video for her single "We Found Love."
The other three competitors in that category are Katy Perry with "Wide Awake"; Gotye with "Somebody that I Used to Know"; and M.I.A. with "Bad Girls."
Rihanna's also up to win Best Female Video and Best Pop Video for "We Found Love," and her video for the song "Where Have You Been" scored nominations in the Best Visual Effects and Best Choreography categories.
Drake's "Take Care" will also compete in the Best Male Video, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography categories, while his work with Lil Wayne, "HYFR," is nominated in the Best Hip-Hop Video category.
Katy Perry, meanwhile, received four nods this year, with Beyonce, Coldplay, Frank Ocean, M.I.A., and the Jay-Z/Kanye West collaboration, Watch the Throne, each landing three.
The Best New Artist race looks to be a toss-up: Fun.'s "We Are Young" will battle it out with Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe"; Frank Ocean's "Swim Good”; One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful"; and The Wanted's "Glad You Came."
So far, Alicia Keys and pop band One Direction are among the announced acts slated to perform on a night that will see many other stars cross the stage, including nominees Kanye West, Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj.
The MTV Video Music Awards will air live on September 6 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
