Parents of over 200 private candidates who were unable to write Physics paper III due to lack of communication on the time for the examination have threatened to sue the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) for breach of contract. At a meeting with the affected candidates and officials of WAEC at Tema on Thursday, they decided to petition President John Agyekum Kufour, Ghana Education Service (GES) and sue WAEC if the candidates were not allowed to re-write the paper. Mr Gilbert Ashagbley, a parent told Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the meeting that officials of WAEC asked each of the candidates to submit to the Council reasons why they could not participate in the examination on October 18. It is the Council's policy for a candidate to submit reasons for his inability to participate in any scheduled examination for consideration. Mr Ashagbley said the Council did not give information to the candidates concerning the change in time. On Thursday October 18, this year, candidates writing the November/December 2007 West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSSCE) in Tema Municipality were not allowed to write Physics paper III because the examination started five hours before the scheduled time.
