A High Court in Kumasi has granted bail to three members of the Delta Force, after they were arrested for invading a meeting organised by the Tafo Pankrono Member of Parliament.
The vigilante group, affiliated to the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) stormed the meeting earlier in October to register their displeasure with the MP, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, for what they refer to as failed promises.
The leader of Delta Force in the Tafo Pankrono Constituency, Jafar Saeed, also known as ‘O.D.4’, told Luv FM’s Kwasi Debrah the MP has failed to honour a promise made to them prior to the 2016 general elections.
“He met us and told us when we work hard for the party [NPP] to win the election, he will make sure we also enjoy and live comfortably,” Saeed said in the Akan dialect.
Some of the rioters were later picked up by the police and arraigned before court.
One other accused person, Yaw Brefo, has been discharged for lack of evidence.
The other three have been charged with conspiracy to cause unlawful damage, causing unlawful damage and rioting.
The court presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, ruled that the accused must comply with the bail conditions which include GHS20,000 each, with one surety who should be residents in Kumasi.
They have also been asked to submit themselves to the police station every Monday.
