Come February 26, Africa’s eyes will be on Accra as it hosts the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) nomination night at the Banquet Hall of the State House. The AMA Awards which was established in 2005, has over the years awarded deserving stakeholders in the movie and film making industry. Already, over 300 movies across Africa have been received for screening and selection. The nomination party which precedes the awards night, will be the first time Ghana is hosting the annual event. The nomination night has previously been held in South Africa and Burkina Faso with Nigeria being the main venue for the awards over the years. Ghana won the bid to host the nomination party due to her impressive showing and surprises at the 2008 awards by clearing all major awards although Kenya had also bid for the hosting rights on the grounds that they won the most awards last year.
