National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegates in Damongo have once again endorsed their former MP Adam Mutawakilu to lead them into the 2024 elections.
Mr Mutawakilu on Saturday won the keenly contested NDC primaries polling 483 votes out of 798 votes cast.
His competitor, Baba Sadique Zankawah, who is a lawyer by profession got 315 votes.
Speaking to the press after he was announced victor, Mr Mutawakilu said he was going to work closely with Mr Sadique Zankawah to ensure the NDC wins the Damongo seat in 2024.
“Certainly, I need his support to be able to win back our parliamentary seat for the NDC come 2024”, he said.
The defeated candidate promised to give his all to ensure the opposition party wins the seat.
“The party is bigger than any of us and apart from that, he is my brother, and we have worked together since 2006. So he has my support and that of my team ahead of the 2024 elections”.
Meanwhile, there were major upsets in the Upper East Region primaries as four NDC incumbent MPs lost their bid to return to Parliament in 2025.
They are Chiana-Paga MP, Thomas Dalu; Garu MP, Albert Akuka Alalzuuga; Navrongo Central MP, Sampson Tangobu Chirigia and Bongo MP, Edward Bawa.
