The Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Adam Mutawakilu, has announced that 41 district managers will be reassigned by January 15, as part of efforts to address illegal water connections and strengthen discipline within the company.
The decision follows an internal performance review that identified persistent operational shortcomings across several districts.
Speaking on Citi FM on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Mr Mutawakilu said the assessment revealed weak supervision and failure by some district managers to effectively deal with illegal connections within their jurisdictions.
He noted that management could no longer overlook lapses that continue to result in significant revenue losses for the company.
According to the GWL Managing Director, investigations into illegal water connections frequently point to the involvement of staff.
“Any illegal connection has something to do with the staff of Ghana Water Limited. Since this operation started, we have dismissed several staff,” he stated, describing the situation as unacceptable.
Mr Mutawakilu explained that in May 2025, clear performance targets were issued to all 103 district managers nationwide, with a six-month timeline to meet the benchmarks.
Following an evaluation conducted at the end of November 2025, management resolved to reassign 41 managers who failed to meet expectations.
“Out of 103 district managers, 41 of them will be reassigned on January 15, 2026,” he said, adding that the move is intended to restore discipline and improve operational efficiency at the district level.
