As the maiden edition of the JOY Sports Legends Month rounded up today (Saturday August 27, 2011), Mr. N.A. Adjin Tettey, former Chairman of the Ghana Amateur Athletics Association, shared his life experiences on the JOY Sports Link.
Adjin Tettey is credited with being one of the pioneers in the establishment of the Dansoman Keep fit Club and is also the brain behind the Accra Milo Marathon.
The octogenarian was the athletics Coach when Ghana participated in the maiden edition of the All African Games in Brazzaville in 1965. Ghana won 12 medals at the games, two gold, five silver and five bronze. The two gold were won by filed athletes who also won three of the five bronze medals. The male athletes took one silver and two bronze, the boxers won one silver and three bronze medals.
Among many achievements, Adjin Tettey was twice appointed chairman of Mass Sports Association of Ghana.
He was also appointed chief coach for the All Africa athletics federation in 1971-1973 and 1975, he led the entire Africa Athletics against the USA. Mr Adjin Tettey is currently chronicling the history of Accra Hearts of Oak for their centenary celebrations for publication later in the year.
