Residents of Adokwai near Dompoase in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti region have been demonstrating against bad roads in the area.
They are particularly angry about the delay in completion of a major bridge which they say has turned into a death trap.
The protesting residents say access to healthcare, especially for pregnant women, is impeded by the poor nature of their road.

They have lost interest in participating in any voting exercise for leaders who they say fail to address their needs.
“We are very angry. Pregnant women are suffering because they are unable to visit the hospital and we are also not able to return after going to the market” a resident said.

Adokwai Community Youth President, Kennedy Oheneba, says the general economic and social activities in the area are adversely affected by the bad road.
He says the community has grown tired of waiting for government’s intervention.

“The name of our community (Adokwai) has been expunged from the records of government. The roads here are repugnant and not usable. For several years, we have been promised better roads but to no positive effect. This is affecting the businesses of our residents,” he indicated.

The Adokwaihene, Daasebre Omono Asamoah Agyei II appealed to the government to fulfill the promise made to the community to complete the construction of the abandoned bridge.
“I am pleading with government to fix the 8 km road linking Dompase to Adokwai.

"The bridge has been blocked, and that is not allowing floodwaters to flow. Not long ago, someone died here. Government shouldn't wait for the election period before attending to our needs,” he pleaded.
