Afena-Gyan will be back firing soon – Oliver Arthur

Felix Afena-Gyan

Black Stars forward, Felix Afena-Gyan, will find his goalscoring boots after recent struggles at club and national level, says his agent, Oliver Arthur.

The 19-year-old is enduring a patchy period since his move from AS Roma to Cremonese in the summer transfer window.

The move has not been fruitful so far per many fans. Afena-Gyan has played eight times in all competitions - many of the games as a substitute and netted one goal.

However, his agent insists he's got lots of quality to blossom.

"I still believe that we will come back strong," Arthur exclusively told JoySports.

"The boy understands, we all know where we are and the boy agreed on the move to Cremonese and we are still together and we still believe the boy will get back to his form," he added.

Clawing back lost glory

The youngster had a blistering start to his footballing career with Roma, emerging from the bench to score two goals and ultimately win a game for Roma against Genoa in November, 2021.

It was a mark that catapulted him into the Black Stars under then coach Otto Addo. The former Roma striker was instrumental in Ghana's World Cup qualification, playing back-to-back against Nigeria in the play-offs and 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar, in a game he scored and assisted before facing Central African Republic.

Suddenly, his departure from Roma to Cremonese somewhat inhibited his form. From failing to compete for a starting spot at the newly promoted side to being dropped from Ghana's 26-man squad for the World Cup. It raised criticisms from various pundits with many accusing his representatives of prioritising money over the player's development.

"Mourinho gave Afena-Gyan the opportunity for a purpose, for a reason. Roma's philosophy for the following season changed. You saw they [Roma] brought in Belotti, Dybala but Afena-Gyan is young and has a lot of time, and opportunities. [He] goes to Cremonese, play and get him up there [again]," he stated.

Cremonese will welcome Juventus when the Serie A resumes on January 4, 2023, an opportunity for Afena-Gyan to arrest his slump in form.
