The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah says President Akufo-Addo has outperformed all governments under Ghana’s present democratic dispensation.
To him, the Akufo-Addo administration is an upgrade of the performance of John Agyekum Kufuor administration.
“There is no doubt that this government led by Nana Akufo-Addo has done excellently well and I don’t think any government under the 1992 democratic dispensation has done better. Former President Kufuor did a lot but this government has done more”, he said.
He added, “They all worked with President Kufuor so they learned a lot from him. They looked at his strengths and weaknesses, took advantage of that and found mitigating strategies for it.”
Addressing the media in Kumasi, the minister said the government will continue to deliver on its mandate within the few works to hand over power.
The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council’s sectorial briefing on infrastructure aimed at accounting for the government’s stewardship since its inception.
In the area of health, the Regional Minister listed delivered projects to include five poly clinics, seven district and regional Hospitals delivered and some Agenda 111 facilities nearing completion.
Simon Osei Mensah says the government is racing behind time to operationalize some hospitals as warranty for some installed equipment near expiration date.
“Both the Sewuah and Afari Hospitals are almost complete. At Sewuah, what we are waiting for is access road. The contractor is at the advanced stage, he will complete in few weeks. We had challenges with sewage system at Afari but it is completed now”, he added.
In the Minister’s presentation, the Ashanti Region was second to the Central Region in terms of poor road network.
As part of efforts to fix the roads, contracts have been awarded to fix some collapsed bridges and construct trunk roads to the regional capital as well as asphalting of inner city roads.
Over two thousand of the five thousand road projects awarded on contract are completed.
Mr. Osei Mensah also mentioned completion of a residential complex for Court of Appeal judges in Kumasi, the construction of court houses, and residential accommodation for magistrates in districts.
