The Director of Alpha Beta Education Centres is advocating the inclusion of more females in Ghana's STEM education drive.

According to Dr. Naomi Agyapong, there is a need to have quality facilities in order to improve learning in this regard.

The school has already incorporated Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses into its curriculum.

The Director was speaking on the sidelines of their STEM Week 2024 event on Thursday, March 21, 2024.

The day also saw a STEM fair, when STEM-related modules and projects, some of which were undertaken by students, were on display.

The theme of the event was, 'Together let's empower Africa's Future through STEM education.'

The Director hopes this would foster in the young people a capacity for critical thought, problem-solving, and creativity in their daily lives.

The school has equipped itself with resources to facilitate hands-on learning by applying STEM concepts in real-world settings. Additionally, failure was emphasized to the students as a necessary component of the STEM learning process.

Alpha Beta has established the "STEM Champions Programme," which trains females in various communities as a way of giving back to the community, in an effort to close the gender gap and improve gender equality. With 25 girls enrolled in the programme at the moment, their goal is to enroll 100 girls this year.

The Director of Alpha Beta Education Centres, Dr. Naomi Agyapong underlined the need to have quality facilities in order to improve learning.

Dr. Agyapong stated that "We’ve had a lot of success so far with this stem initiative."

"All the way from last year to this year, we’ve been very proactive in making sure that our students have good facilities to be able to study STEM-related subjects so we’ve been able to upgrade our science lab, we now have two ultra-modern labs."

Chief Executive Officer of Bountiful Technologies, Seth Ogoe Ayim emphasised the value of including girls in STEM projects.

Mr. Ayim added, "As we know, It’s just 20% of women in STEM so we want to emphasize and promote that gender bridge to make sure that the girls can also contribute to a digital economy."

Organizations present at the Alpha Beta STEM project include Genesis Oil and Gas Services, Maurya Education Limited, Starlife Insurance, Stanbic Bank, Bountiful Technologies, Digicraft, DEXT, IoT Network hub and Stemrobo.

By focusing on STEM education, Alpha Beta is preparing students for success and forming the next generation of leaders and innovators while also promoting diversity and creativity.
