Multiple award-winning highlife musician, Amakye Dede has revealed the actual meaning of his stool name, Barima Okyeredom I.
In an exclusive interview with JoyNews’ Becky, the 'Iron Boy' hitmaker said his position is very critical as he uses his influence to draw attention to his hometown.
“My stool name is Barima Okyreredom II. This means that I have used my music to introduce Asante Ayem Agogo to Ghana and the rest of the world.
"It has absolutely nothing to do with going to war or anything but using my influence and career to impact positively and draw the world’s attention to his hometown,” he said.
Amakye Dede was installed chief by the Omanhene of Asante Akyem Agogo, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong in 2018 and has over the years built and ultra-modern event center, a tomato farm, a hotel and a pharmacy serving the populace at Asante Akyem Agogo.
The musician who says he believes his actions will speak for him better than words says he will continue in his own way contribute to the growth and development of his hometown.
The musician began his career in 1973 when he joined the Kumapim Royals as a composer and vocalist. This band, led by Akwasi Ampofo Agyei (AAA), had hits such as “Abebi Bewua Eso”, “Wanware Me A”, “Odo Mani Agyina”, and the seminal “Ohohoo Batani”. Dede moved to Nigeria where he had his hit “Jealousy go shame”.
He then formed his own band, the Apollo High Kings, in 1980. He dominated the highlife scene in the 1980s and 1990s and has continued to have hit songs in the 21st century.
