The Parliamentary Appointments Committee has dismissed a last-minute petition against Supreme Court nominee Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo.

During Friday’s session, Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor confirmed the decision, allowing the vetting of President Mahama’s final nominee to proceed as scheduled.

According to him, the allegations are “frivolous, vexatious, and unmeritorious.”

"The complaint against the nominee is about the exercise of judicial power in conducting the matter, leading to a judgment under reference. The Committee this morning rules that the petition is frivolous, vexatious, worthless and unmeritorious, and it is baseless in law and the facts, a complete abuse of the process," he said.

The petition, filed by self-described human rights activist Anthony Kwabenya Rau, accused Justice Ackaah-Boafo of judicial bias, misconduct, and political opportunism.

Mr Rau alleged the nominee had insulted him during a 2019 DVLA court case, calling him a “so-called ‘Messiah’ activist” and questioning his legal standing in Ghana.

The petition further described Ackaah-Boafo as “arrogant, power-drunk, and culturally insensitive” due to his Canadian background.

But Chairman Ahiafor dismissed the petition after review, paving the way for the vetting to proceed as planned.

“Article 127(3), of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana says that a justice of the Superior Court or any other person exercising judicial power shall not be liable to any action or suit for any act or omission by him in the exercise of the judicial power," he added.
