All food stocks at the Archbishop Porter Senior High School have been declared unsafe for consumption following the mass outbreak of diarrhoea at the school.
More than 150 students were rushed to hospital Wednesday night with symptoms of food poisoning.
Joy News has learnt that the students were served groundnut soup and rice for supper the night before the mass hospitalization.
Officials of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) have taken samples of the meal for investigation.
The board has meanwhile directed that the school’s current food stock should not be touched until investigations are complete.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) is said to be enforcing the directive.
Metropolitan Director for Education for Sekendi Takoradi, Nana Kofi Adjei Mbeah, told Joy News some parents have been allowed to take their wards home for further treatment although school authorities had earlier objected to the idea.
Parents who spoke to Joy News argued that school authorities must allow them to take their wards elsewhere for further care.
A thorough cleaning exercise of the school has already begun whilst fresh foodstuffs are being supplied, Nana Mbeah said.
Meanwhile, health authorities say it will take up to a week before they can confidently determine what exactly led to the mass hospitalization of the students.
Several scores of the girls were on Wednesday rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Hospital and many others were attended to by doctors on campus for complaints of diarrhoea.
Western Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Linda Van-Otoo, said health officials are still on standby attending to the students.
She said she has been trying to explain to the anxious parents that all is well after a parent who had visited the school to check on her ward collapsed during a meeting with school authorities on Thursday.
