Asante Kotoko claimed the maiden edition of the Democracy Cup as they beat Hearts of Oak on Wednesday, July 17.
The Porcupine Warriors recorded a 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium to continue their dominance over the Phobians.
Justice Blay opened the scoring for Kotoko after 30 minutes played. The midfielder converted from the penalty spot after the Kumasi-based side were handed an advantage.
Kotoko should have had more in the opening half but settled for just one goal as the first half came to an end.
After recess, it was Hearts who struck first.
Asamoah Boateng drew Aboubakar Ouattara's men on level terms, giving hope to their fans of possible victory.
However, Amidu restored Kotoko's lead in the latter stages of the game to make the scoreline 2-1.
Despite a late attempt from Hearts, the Porcupine Warriors run away with the win, sealing their third victory of the 2023/24 season over the Phobians.
The win on Wednesday sees Kotoko claim the ticket to face DC United in a friendly game later this year.
