The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has donated GH¢50,000 to support a street art initiative under AshantiFest in the Ashanti Region.
The donation was made during a ceremony at the Asokwa Interchange, where students and teachers from local schools unveiled a mural as part of efforts to transform selected interchanges into public art spaces.
The initiative forms part of activities under AshantiFest, a regional programme spearheaded by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, to promote culture, tourism, skills development and job creation.
Mr Asiedu Nketia highlighted the importance of art and artisanal skills as viable avenues for economic empowerment, particularly for the youth. He noted that practical skills, when properly developed, could provide sustainable livelihoods and help address unemployment challenges.
He also commended the teachers and students involved in the project for their creativity and initiative, describing their work as a significant contribution to national development and urban beautification.

The NDC Chairman encouraged other educational institutions across the country to adopt similar initiatives to enhance public spaces and promote Ghana’s cultural heritage to both local and international audiences.
The mural unveiled at the interchange features a blend of traditional Ashanti symbols and contemporary imagery, reflecting a fusion of heritage and modern expression.
AshantiFest, a month-long programme, seeks to revitalise public spaces, support creative industries and position the region as a major cultural and tourism hub. Activities under the festival include exhibitions, performances, skills training and community-based projects.
Mr Asiedu Nketia’s donation forms part of broader support for the initiative, as he continues a thank-you tour of the Ashanti Region following the 2025 general elections.
