The chiefs and people of Asuhyiae in the Ahafo-Ano North District of Ashanti have raised an amount of GH¢2,100 Ghana cedis towards the construction of a teachers' quarters in the town during a fund-raising rally.
The eight-bed room quarters estimated to cost GH¢12,000, is being financed through communal labour and a special levy of GH¢2 per female and GH¢3 per male of every resident in the town and GH¢5 for non-resident citizens.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Eric Nana Agyeman Prempeh, the District Chief Executive, pledged the support of the district assembly to the project.
He appealed to the people to unite as one people, devoid of partisan politics to mobilize the needed resources to complete the building on time to solve the accommodation problem facing teachers in the town.
He donated 50 bags of cement on behalf of the assembly to support the project.
Mr Bismarck Francis Osei, Assembly member for the area praised the artisans and the people for their communal spirit and civil responsibilities.
He appealed to non-resident citizens to pay regular visit to the town and contribute their quota to the various development projects going on in the town.
Mr Osei, who is also the Presiding Member of the District Assembly, commended the MP for the area, Mr Kwame Owusu Frimpong, the district assembly and the government for assisting the town to have electricity, a new classroom block for the local junior high school, nurses' quarters and a community library.
He appealed to the government to construct a permanent bridge on river Kwasu to make the Acherensua-Asuhyiae road motorable throughout the year.
