JoyNews is learning that Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame has taken an interest in former Sanitation Minister’s ‘stolen money’ case.
The former Minister resigned from her position on Saturday, July 22, after reports emerged that she had stashed huge sums of money in her home, part of which had been stolen by two house helps who are now facing prosecution alongside other accomplices.
According to the charge sheet, the pair, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei have allegedly stolen US$1 million, €300,000 and millions of Ghana cedis between July and October 2022.
JoyNews’ Kojo Yankson reports that the docket for the original case of robbery and handling of stolen goods against five persons facing trial has been presented to the Attorney General.
The Attorney General is expected to go through the details of the police investigations and give advice on the case as to whether or not the police can proceed or not with prosecution.
According to Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host, reports from sources indicate that the Attorney general is writing back to the police on the matter.
He said details of the letter will inform the police to expand its investigations to look into the source of the ‘stolen money’.
“So this is going to be the next step of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigation. They are going to be advised by the Attorney General to now look into the original source of the allegedly stolen money by the five people named in the charge sheet, according to our sources,” he said.
Media reports emerged on Friday, July 21, of two housemaids who worked for the Sanitation Minister and her husband at their home, facing trial with others for the theft of huge sums of money and other items from the home.
According to the charge sheet, the pair, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei have allegedly stolen US$1 million, €300,000 and millions of Ghana cedis between July and October 2022.
Clothes, handbags, perfumes, jewellery, kente cloth and suits belonging to Mrs. Dapaah’s husband said to be worth thousands of dollars, are alleged to have been taken.
Following the publications, Cecilia Dapaah has become the subject of critical opprobrium.
Surprisingly, she has questioned the amounts alleged to have been stolen, saying there are “noticeable inconsistencies” in the discussions of what she reported to the police.
Due to the controversy surrounding the “stolen” cash, Madam Cecilia Dapaah resigned from her position as Sanitation Minister on Saturday, July 2022.
She was subsequently arrested and questioned by OSP and later granted bail.
