The Executive Director of the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA), Dr Rasheed Draman, has called for a ban on Members of Parliament (MPs) serving on boards of public institutions, arguing that the practice presents a clear conflict of interest.
His remarks come in the wake of concerns raised by the Minority on Parliament’s Finance Committee over what they describe as a glaring conflict of interest involving the Committee's Chairman, Isaac Adongo.
Mr Adongo, who also serves on the board of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), has come under scrutiny from his colleagues for holding dual roles that may compromise his objectivity.
Dr Draman made the comments on JoyNews’ AM Show on Tuesday, 20th May, stating that "I don't see anything wrong" with MPs sitting on boards but to avoid the issues of conflict of interest, "they need to go back to the books and change the standing orders and stop members of parliament from sitting on any board at all," said.
