The Vice President's Spokesperson, Dr. Bawumia, has defended the Vice President's decision to campaign while in office.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Monday, Dr Gideon Boako explained that the Vice President upon resumption of office has never taken his leave in the last six and half years.
He thus argued that, choosing to use his accumulated leave now for his campaign activities is in order.
“The Vice President has some accumulated leave he can take to do some of these things,” he insisted.
This comes after some Ghanaians expressed concern about why the Vice President is on a campaign tour while still in office.
Reacting to these concerns, Dr Boako said Dr Bawumia is “not going to be the first Vice President to still contest for an internal election in the country.

“We saw Prof Mills – who was a Vice President, he contested internal election, we saw Aliu Mahama, former President Mahama and Vice President Bawumia is not moving out of the convention on the practice that has been laid down.”
Mr Boako stated that the Vice President was present for work on Monday morning.
However, later in the day, he moved out to campaign.
He noted that Dr Bawumia’s campaign started right after he submitted his nomination forms to contest as the party’s flagbearer.
According to him, he is presently campaigning in the Greater Accra Region, adding that he covers four constituencies a day.
“Friday, he did two constituencies. Yesterday, he did four constituencies. The day after Friday, he did four constituencies, and today he did four constituencies… So as I speak with you, I think he is in one of the constituencies, I think he is doing the last constituency now,” he stated.
