Former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has joined the Asante Kingdom and the nation in mourning the passing of the revered Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom, Her Royal Majesty Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, describing her as “an enduring symbol of unity, grace, and candour”.
In a tribute posted on his official Facebook page, Dr Bawumia expressed his deep sorrow, joining His Majesty the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asanteman Council, and the entire Asanteman in paying homage to the late Queen Mother.
“It is with a heavy heart that I join His Majesty the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asanteman Council and Asanteman in mourning the passing of our dearest Queen Mother, Asantehemaa Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III,” he wrote.
Dr Bawumia reflected warmly on the personal connection he shared with the late Asantehemaa, praising her compassion, wisdom, and spiritual guidance.
“Nana, throughout her reign, remained an enduring symbol of unity, grace, and candour,” he said. “Her sense of compassion and open arms received many, of whom I am proud to have been part. Her words of encouragement and counsel, just as her prayers, have been a source of strength for me.”
The former Vice-President’s tribute echoed the sentiment felt across Ghana, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where the late Queen Mother was a central figure in traditional governance, cultural preservation, and maternal leadership within the Asanteman.
“We have lost a mother, not just the Queen Mother,” he wrote in closing. “Ohemaa Konadu Yiadom, Due. Asanteman, Damirifa Due.”
The Oyoko Family confirmed the passing of the second most powerful person in Asanteman to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at an emergency Asanteman Traditional Council meeting on Monday.
Born Nana Ama Konadu, Nana Konadu Yiadom III was the 14th Asantehemaa and the biological sister of the current Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
She became the Asantehemaa 5 years ago following the death of her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, the then Asantehemaa
