The BBC Website is braced for record levels of usage as England face Slovenia in a crucial World Cup match. It is thought that millions of workers could be watching the live stream on the BBC's iPlayer. In a statement, the BBC said that they expected it to be "the biggest event that we've streamed live to date". ITV came in for recent criticism when its servers struggled to cope with demand during the opening game between Mexico and South Africa. The live stream gets underway at 14:15 BST, with the game kicking off at 15:00. England has to secure a win over Slovenia to be certain of reaching the last 16. A spokesman for the BBC said that they had "set aside as much capacity on our servers as we reasonably can" but warned that users' own connection speeds could still have an adverse effect on the quality of the stream, "The open internet isn't an end-to-end managed network, so peoples' experiences will vary depending on their internet connection," read the statement. "But we want audiences to get the best quality picture possible for their local connection and to avoid the picture buffering; our streams will be available in a range of different picture qualities that automatically switch depending on the connection speeds available." Users outside of the UK will have to find other ways of watching the game, as the iPlayer stream is restricted to fans within Britain. Source: BBC
