Venues and tickets availability are to be revealed soon.
The Color Purple is the third feature film to be directed by the Ghanaian following his work on The Burial of Kojo and Beyonce’s Black is King.
A story of love and resilience based on the novel and the Broadway musical of the same name, The Color Purple is a decades-spanning tale of one woman's journey to independence.
Torn apart from her sister and her children, Celie faces many hardships in life, including an abusive husband.
With support from a sultry singer named Shug Avery, as well as her stand-her-ground stepdaughter, Celie ultimately finds extraordinary strength in the unbreakable bonds of a new kind of sisterhood.
Fantasia Barrino makes her major motion picture debut by reprising the role of adult Celie, which she first portrayed in her Broadway debut in 2007 and won a Theatre World Award for. Danielle Brooks stars alongside her as Sofia, a role that she played on Broadway during the 2015 revival production, which earned her a Tony Award nomination.
The star-studded cast includes Taraji P. Henson as Shug Avery, Colman Domingo as Mister, Phylicia Mpasi as Young Celie, Corey Hawkins as Harpo, H.E.R. as Squeak, Louis Gossett Jr. as Ol' Mister, David Alan Grier as Reverend Avery, Tamela J. Mann as First Lady, Halle Bailey as Young Nettie, Ciara as Adult Nettie, Deon Cole as Alfonso and Stephen Hill as Buster.
The Color Purple, initially released on Christmas in cinemas in the USA, recently scored 16 NAACP Image Awards nominations including Oustanding Motion Picture and scored an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Danielle Brooks.
The film has also been nominated for other awards including the SAG Awards, BAFTA Awards, Critics Choice Awards and The Golden Globes.
