The Venue Manager of the newly constructed Borteyman Sports Complex, Majeed Bawa, has firmly denied recent media reports suggesting that the facility was used for a Church programme.
In a statement addressing the issue, Bawa clarified the circumstances surrounding the event in question and expressed concern over the misleading information.
According to Bawa, a letter received from the Student Representative Councils (SRCs) of the University of Ghana, University of Professional Studies, Valley View University, and other institutions requested a special visitation to the Borteyman Sports Complex.
The visit was part of a tour of Accra's newest attraction, with the purpose of familiarizing the students with the facilities.
"The SRCs intended to tour the facilities at the venue," Bawa explained.
"A church was supposed to provide transportation for the students, and subsequently, a deputy minister was scheduled to give them a lecture on leadership.
"Therefore, they were granted access to the hall for this purpose."
On the day of the visit, the venue had just hosted a two-day Badminton competition, and the equipment was still in place.
The students entered the hall and were seated in anticipation of the deputy minister's lecture.
Bawa, who was present at the facility, noticed a Church banner in the hall, which was explained to him as a result of the Church's role in facilitating transportation.

"It is important to note that there were many Muslim students in attendance, some of whom were wearing hijabs," Bawa emphasised, highlighting the diversity of the attendees.
The NSA Deputy Director General expressed surprise and disappointment at the reports suggesting the facility was handed out for a Church programme.
"There is a statement from the University of Ghana SRC apologising to the Muslim students who were part of this tour, clarifying that at no point was it intended for a Church programme."
He concluded by apologising for any confusion and distress the misreports may have caused and assured the public that the Borteyman Sports Complex remains a facility dedicated to serving the diverse needs of the community.
