Thousands of school children in the Ashanti region trooped to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to participate in the Good Practice Network Conference for schools and stakeholders of education. The Conference is under the British Council’s school exchange programme, which brings together educational practitioners and advisers to promote a global education in school curricula. The programme promotes partnerships between schools in the UK and in 56 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, raising children’s awareness on developmental issues through intercultural dialogue. Over 350 schools across Ghana are currently participating in the programme. Pupils in over 100 schools in the Ashanti region shared their knowledge of developmental issues across the globe with one another. They also highlighted some of the good educational practices being adopted in their respective schools that have made impact in their lives. According to the British Council Director, Moses Anibaba, young children who have participated in the programme have increased their appreciation and awareness about global issues. “There is a lot of learning to be had; not just here but in the UK. Most of the schools that have been involved, they come back and say wow, we learnt so much from our partner schools; and the schools in the UK, they come to Africa and say there are so many things that are happening that we did not have a clue of; so there are lots of shared learning. It makes for a better world because these kids will grow up confident of who they are and their culture“, he told Luv Fm.
