The Interior Ministry has imposed a 8pm to 6am curfew on the Bunkprugu Township due to heightened tension between feuding factions in the area.
The curfew takes effect from Tuesday, December 29, 2015, according to a government statement.
The statement signed by the Deputy Minister of Interior, James Agalga, says the curfew was imposed on the conflict zone on the advice of the Northern Region Security Council (NRCC).
Bunkprugu has been a hotbed of clashes between chieftaincy and ethnic factions in the area.
The conflicts have over many years resulted in numerous deaths and curfews.
President Mahama last Thursday called on the factions to ceasefire.
According to him, the incessant revival of the age-long chieftaincy conflict between the Jamong and Jafog clans in the Bunkprugu traditional area, is affecting the agenda to transform the Northern Region.
Speaking at the 2015 Damba festival celebrated in Mamprugu President Mahama emphasized the need for peaceful co-existence in some identified conflict zones in the Northern Region.
