The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has called on the Chiefs and people of Akuapeman in the Eastern Region to bury their differences and sustain the relative peace in the area.

He has extended the same call to the general public to work towards sustaining peace in the country.

The Akuapem area has in recent years been embroiled in chieftaincy conflict following the death of Nana Addo Dankwa III in 2015, and the chaotic manner in which his successor was destooled, and the subsequent enstoolment of the current occupant of the Akuapem stool.

Additionally, following intelligence gathered in January 2018, about 30 armed men from National Security headquarters stormed the Okuapemhene’s Palace and forced occupants of the building out following reports of a possible chieftaincy clash over what was rumoured to be the imminent installation of two chiefs in the area.

Though there appears to be relative peace, there are fears the fragile situation could degenerate.

Addressing Okuapehene Oseeadeeyo Kwesi Akuffo III and his people at the Okuapehene palace Wednesday morning, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu urged them to smoke the peace pipe, close their ranks, and work for the common good of the traditional area.

As the country steadily works towards recovering from the shock of the coronavirus pandemic, the grand Mufti reminded them that without peace, the quest for economic recovery, be it local or national, will remain a mirage and the people will be the ones to pay the price in the long run.

He also encouraged them to at all times deliberately avoid using interpret language when dealing with each other regardless of the faction one belongs to.

As a trademark of his peacebuilding effort, the national Chief Imam told the gathering, that the fact that they trace their lineage to one ancestry should be a guiding principle and a unifying force to promote peace in the area.

Sheikh Sharubutu also donated food items worth thousands of Ghana cedis including rice, oil and rams to the Akuapem school for the blind and the demonstration School For The Deaf at Mampong Akuapem in the Eastern Region.
