The Student Representative Council (SRC) of the Cape Coast Polytechnic has called for the removal of the registrar of the institution because of his alleged corrupt practices. The SRC said the students would embark on a series of demonstrations should the authorities fail to remove the registrar. At a press conference in Cape Coast last Friday, the SRC President, Mr Emmanuel Boahene, claimed that the student leadership had evidence which suggested the registrar [Mr Nimako Danquah] had over the years engaged in corrupt practices including admission fraud that undermined the image and credibility of the polytechnic. Mr Boahene further alleged that Mr Danquah had been the source of the confusion at the school with respect to the selection of a new rector. According to the student leadership, Mr Danquah was the master brain behind the claim by two lecturers, Mr Emmanuel Appiah-Offei and Mr Tsatsu McCarthy that one Dr Lawrence Atepor who was shortlisted for the rectorship, did not qualify for the position. He said the SRC’s investigations had also suggested that the registrar, who is the secretary of the committee working in search of a new rector, had continuously leaked confidential information to the two. The situation he said had led to confusion and the use of offensive language by the two called in the political leadership of the country to intervene. Such attitudes he noted had not only brought the image of the polytechnic into disrepute but also smacked of disrespect for the rules and regulations necessary for a conducive learning environment for the school. Mr Boahene indicated that the absence of a rector had affected teaching and learning on campus and prayed the search committee to expedite action on the search fro a new reactor.
