The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which is an independent tribunal that facilitates settlements of sporting disputes, has ruled in favour of our attacking midfielder, Richmond Lamptey, who was wrongly accused of a match-fixing scandal that occurred while he was playing for InterAllies.
The Ghana Football Association’s disciplinary committee in the 2020/2021 season banned the midfielder from all football activities for a period of 30 months for his alleged involvement in a game between his former club, Inter Allies and Ashantigold which ended in a 7-0 defeat against the former.
Richmond, who joined Kotoko at the beginning of the 2021/2022, was found guilty after an investigation by the DC and therefore had to serve his suspension.
However, Asante Kotoko appealed on the player's behalf at the Court of Arbitration for Sport for the decision to be overturned.
Reacting to the news, Administrative manager, Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi told scasantekotoko.com that: “The CAS decision is a big relief for all of us and Richmond. He is a true professional and one of the fans' favourites and for a player of such quality, it was important for us to take that step and we are glad the verdict is in our favour.”
The CAS decision also ordered the GFA to compensate Richmond Lamptey with the amount of CHF 3,000 (three thousand Swiss francs ) as contribution towards his legal fees and other expenses incurred in connection with the arbitration proceedings.
CAS after a careful examination of the case, found no concrete evidence to rule against the player and therefore overturned the decision in favour of Lamptey.
